The Rising Sun Inn is now run by Julian Zealey and Karolina Branicka and their dog Mona and is one of Britain's most famous fishing pubs, situated amongst the stunning scenery of North Devon with easy access to the River Taw and Tarka rail and walking trail.
The Rising Sun in Umberleigh, North Devon is a 14th Century Inn providing quality bed and breakfast accommodation with free on site parking. With open fires in the Winter and a glorious terrace for the Summer you can enjoy local seasonal food with real ales and ciders whatever the weather.
The Inn was built in the 14th Century and is decorated with traditional pictures and photographs including the late Eric Morecombe (Morecombe and Wise) showcasing the local views, fishing and shooting scenes.
The Rising Sun is an ideal place for walkers to stay to explore the beautiful North Devon countryside and coastline.
We welcome dogs with their well behaved owners in the bar area and in the majority of our accommodation.
We are situated two minutes from Umberleigh train station which is known as the Tarka Train Line running daily from Barnstaple to Exeter. Train Booking Times.

Meet the Team
Julian Zealy and Karolina Branicka warmly welcome you to The Rising Sun Inn. They took it over in August 2015 after moving from Dulverton.
Nikki Ayliffe was hired by Julian and Karolina and previously worked at The Royal Oak in Winsford and The Hartnoll Hotel near Tiverton.
Originally from the South East, Stewart takes pride in country & wholesome cooking. Using local fresh produce and meats.
He is always willing to speak with customers about special dietry requirements & tastes.
We offer a choice of 7 rooms with prices starting from £70.00 per night for a double and from £60.00 per night for a single occupancy. Prices include a full English breakfast. Dogs are welcome in all the rooms except Sandpitts and Horestone and are charged £7.50 per night per dog.
Fishing, Shooting & Golf
This famous Sporting Hotel has always been a Mecca for Salmon, Sea Trout and Brown Trout Fisherman. The Stunning River Taw runs nearly passed the door providing some of the finest fly fishing in the West Country. The Hotel still retains over a mile of private fishing split into two beats consisting of sixteen named pools including the famous Bear pit, Hut pool and Home pool.
Jules, the Landlord, has fished this river for over 40 years and is always available for advice over a pint or offers a Ghillie service for the less experienced fly fisher. For more information contact Jules at the hotel.
We are perfectly located for high quality pheasant and partridge shoots and golf courses. Our accomodation is centrally heated perfect after a day’s shooting or golf.
